Slam Jam Gloucester Sleepover
On Saturday, April 7th, Slam Jam made the long drive up to Morning Garden in Gloucester Massachusetts. They were met there by members of the Worcester and Boston community youth groups for a gathering of almost 50 people total.
After hearing the rules of Morning Garden and determining to be respectful guests, the group went to Gloucester's beautiful beach down the road from the property. Here they played sports including Frisbee, volleyball, and soccer while some people explored the giant boulders over looking the coast.
After sports, the group went back to Morning Garden for an inspiring talk led by Krista and Kent titled "Finding Your Why" about the meaning of life. Everyone participated in an affirmation circle where they practiced actively caring for each other by asking and listening and then affirming each other's strengths. This activity left the group feeling close and inspired to follow the original purpose of love.
After dinner it was time for some more fun! The participants played several very rowdy rounds of Mafia and then went outside for a beautiful bonfire complete with s'mores and plenty of singing. Finally, when it was too late for the group to be noisy outside, everyone went in and played games until lights out.
In the morning everyone broke into small groups and did Hoon Dok Hwe before breakfast. After cleaning up the building, everyone felt it was too soon to say goodbye. It was a truly beautiful weekend, in a almost magical location teeming with fun and love. We hope to do similar retreats in the future and make them longer if possible.
